10 Ways to Beat The Winter Blahs

Sometimes – around this time of year – it seems like the colour is sucked out of your life, leaving everything feeling and looking a bit dull. From your wardrobe and hair to your social life, a lack of the sun and warmth can turn everything a depressing shade of gray and before you even brush your teeth, all you want to do is crawl back in bed and sleep the day away.

These doldrums are symptoms for what is commonly referred to as the winter blues, also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). The Mayo clinic states that as many as one in five Americans have SAD, and 75 percent are women.

So what do we do to beat the moody winter blues? We overcompensate in the glamour department! Nothing brings color and energy back into our life better than a bit of personal pampering.

Here are 10 ways to make yourself feel too good to be blue:

 

1. Get Moving  – Here are some workout videos you can do at home to get your energy pumping again. A little natural color to your face and a pep in your step can go a long way in beating those blues.

2. Get Centered – Meditation on the go: there’s an app for that. This is perfect for realigning your sense of calm after a hectic day. Or, if you’re like me, you can use it at night to help you drift off into a peaceful sleep.

3. Get Moisturized – During winter, the air is harsh and damaging to our delicate skin, so be sure you are using a cream (as it locks in your moisture) instead of a lotion, which evaporates and leaves your skin unprotected.
