July 04, 2011 12:44 AM

Whether you’re a professional web designer or searching for ideas for a creative brief for your personal or company website, these are our 10 favourite websites for design inspiration.

1. The FWA

The Favourite Websites Awards site showcases the most cutting edge websites in flash, HTML, XHTML, CSS, HTML5, etc. They select a site of the day, site of the month and site of the year as well as a new “Mobile of the day” selection that features an iPhone or iPad app. Getting selected is the most prestigious award online.

The site features FWAWebTV (live streams), interviews with winners, articles where they talk about projects and they have contributor articles too.

3. Dribbble

Dribbble is a show and tell site for designers, developers and other creatives. You can either be a spectator or a player…

A spectator can:
“Find & Follow – discover creatives and the projects they’re working on.
Save your faves – create an inspiration stream from your favorite shots.
Become a Prospect – add yourself to the Prospects list to get drafted as a player by another designer.”

A player can:
“Upload to Dribbble – share 400 × 300 peeks of what you’re working on.
Rebound shots – respond with a follow-up of your own. Join playoffs.
Tag & comment – organize your shots and join the discussion.”

Once you get used to the sports terminology, the site is a great community that introduces you to a lot of designers and it’s a good place for new designers to get noticed.

6. Style Inspiration

This site features many different types of design: vector graphics, web design, apps, blogs, and more. The tags make it easy to narrow your search depending on your mood or objective and their curation is simply amazing. They present one new item every day and “have a policy of not publishing any half decent design”.

With the quick filtering options, it’s so easy to find the inspiration you’re looking for quickly and easily.

9. HTML5 Awesome

This site features the most innovative HTML5 websites. It tells you when the latest site was added in the right hand corner of the site.

The design of the site itself isn’t the cleanest – the feature images are really close to each other – but the sites they choose are fabulous and are featured on their own pages which tell you about the designer – a great way to find new designers to follow on Twitter.

The best thing is that you can view all the sites on your iPad or iPhone. HTML 5 is awesome.

10. Template Monster

There are so many website and branding templates you can browse and buy on this site: flash, HTML, blogs, logos, Facebook templates and more.

It’s not for designers to get cutting edge design inspiration from, but it’s good for business/corporate clients. If you’re working with clients, it’s a good idea to ask them to search this site for sites that they like.

And it’s actually a good place to buy a template from, especially if you want a nice site for a low price, rather than creating a full site from scratch.
