Everything is Going to be Okay

A cool gift for graduates that just might contain the secret to happiness.

The new book Everything Is Going To Be Okay:A Book For You or Someone Like You from New Yorker cartoonist Bruce Eric Kaplan is whimsical, brief, and very much like a children’s book for adults.

It begins as an amusing tale of two very ordinary people drawn into slightly extraordinary circumstances when one of them – the husband, Edmond – is invited to give a commencement speech at a university he didn’t attend, for reasons he can’t fathom.

From there, the book muses on the confusions of an average life, in which we discover at various junctures that although we know there’s some greater meaning to be derived from our experiences, we can never quite pin it down when we try.

Although it descends at times into sentimentality, it’s a sweet little book that can be devoured in a single sitting.

With hilarious illustrations, great visual jokes, and many small insights into the funny side of some weighty realities, it would make a great gift for a recent university graduate, especially since the centerpiece is an extended graduation speech.

You can buy the book from Chapters-Indigo or Amazon.

As bad as it may sound, I sometimes enjoy reading comments more than the actual thread.
